The rooms in the house of Nicolaas Rockox are arranged according to the inventory of his estate at the time of his death in 1640. Along the way, you will pass through the reception room, where we explore the importance of social networks and connections, which were just as vital then as they are today. You will also visit Rockox’s art chamber, where we showcase some of the finest pieces in our collection. Here, the focus is on the craftsmanship and talents of Antwerp’s citizens. Furniture, paintings, sculptures, and silverwork all illustrate the exceptional artistry for which Antwerp became famous throughout Europe. In the house of Frans Snijders, you will discover the creativity of this master painter and his contemporaries, artists who brought breathtaking still lifes, animal scenes, and hunting pieces to life on canvas.
