An art history museum, which delves into the history of Flemish identity, especially exposing the period of the 16th and 17th centuries, is very inspiring for every visitor. It was not an obvious time, just as it is not today, and the Southern Netherlands underwent an identity crisis on many fronts. There was the Spanish domination that was accompanied by many wars and disagreements, there were religious unrest and cultural differences. But there were also citizens who sensitized a people to preserve the uniqueness of our region.

A man like Nicolaas Rockox, several times the mayor of Antwerp, is certainly an example of this. The museum also offers universal themes that were once part of society, but are still hot spots in every society today, such as multiculturalism, diversity, travel, poverty, import/export, food... The artworks can be read, a specialized guide takes the OKAN/NT2 participants along and engages in fascinating dialogues with them, using simple language based on the participants' language knowledge.
