Together with the guide, students discover what life was like behind the scenes of a 17th-century patrician residence. Through close observation, investigation, philosophical reflection, and discussion, they build an understanding of society, art, and everyday life in 17th-century Antwerp. |

With this age group, the focus is on exploring a world that feels relatable, as students themselves live in a society shaped by themes such as civic engagement, economics, and cultural context. The same was true in the 17th century, although people experienced life in very different ways. Starting from their own experiences, students explore similarities and differences between past and present. They consider the advantages and disadvantages of different approaches and engage in critical discussions about solutions from both then and now. The artworks provide ample material for conversation, from secular iconography and religious imagery to portraiture and representations of nature, all of which they encounter throughout the museum. |
